i know last post was all happy-happy-joy-joy, and i wish i could be like that all the time, but it's kind of a tradition with me that a really good day has to be followed by a crappy one. (i'll blame my bipolar gemini personality for this.)

so basically, i'm bored out of my freaking mind. i've been trapped inside for the past three days (thanks mother nature), and i can't take it anymore. there are things i should be doing, but can't bring myself to, and i can't seem to remember everything that seemed so important before... and sorry for the huge burst of negativity. i'm just going a little very stir-crazy here. trapped. in. my. house. ok, we need a topic change...

how about rainbow hair? sounds good to me. 

dear tavi, you drive me craaazy sometimes. why? because of this. and arabelle. really, guys. teaming up on the rest of us like that? not fair. and then there was chanel, selina, olivia, and of course, gala, queen of unnaturally colored hair.

at first i thought pastel hair was cool, but, you know, not for me. then i started seeing rainbow hair everywhere. and i mean everywhere. (i think flickr is the guilty party here.) and then i started thinking... (of course, that's when all the trouble started. ;)) what about just a few strands? not the whole head, and therefore no roots to touch up, either. and easily hideable, in case the need arises... much more reasonable, no? soo... i think i'm ready to jump on this runaway train. ;) now i just have to determine exactly how dead i'd be if i actually dyed my hair blue...

ok. one decadent breakfast, 2 best friends (who are good at talking me off the edge), and a few hours of a little bit of flickr browsing later, i feel so much better. less like the world is trying to suffocate me. <3 i hope all of you who are wishing for snow right now know what you're getting into! haha.

they don't love you like i love you

no classes today, as we got hit with mounds of snow. :) a very productive day off, if i do say so myself. (after getting an extra 3 hours of sleep and eating pancakes. cos what are snow days for, anyway?)

just threw this on, because it makes me feel (slightly) more presentable than pyjamas. 

jacket, old navy; top and "jeggings," target; boots, totes.

also, i got the teen vogue handbook the other week, and have finally gotten to paging through it properly. i would definitely recommend it as a must-read to anyone interested in a career in fashion. (i pretty much bought it for the photography section.) i felt like the big, overwhelming lesson was that you don't need to go to a design/art/fashion school, but the willingness to be an assistant/intern really helps. however, there is a handy little section in the back with a mini-overview of a lot of the aforementioned not-totally-necesary design/art/fashion schools, which i thought was very nice of them. 

and finally, i had some fun with some lipstick i got from ulta. ;) (i think i made the bottom lip too wide, though. sadface.) and if you've never smeared your lips with concealer, it's a very creepy experience, to say the least. psst. it makes you look like a zombie.

all fall down

i saw this at a store, and i just couldn't resist. i didn't expect much, considering it's... well... black lipstick, but i really love it. i think you just have to be careful not to wear too much black/leather/studs with it, and you'll be fine... by the way, this is wet n' wild. (as in, very cheap. good if  you just want to try it, without much investment.) i'm not sure if it'll ever make it outside my house (i'm not sure i'm quite ready for that), but i wanted to share with you guys. ;)

i was bored the other night, so... ta-da! my very own lady gaga-esque hairbow made out of real hair. :) yes, i am very pleased with myself. it was actually pretty easy, i used this video (i found it through pigtails and blushing cheeks, go check them out!), and just adapted it my for own purposes. hint- you should have at least shoulder-length hair if you want to attempt this. or, y'know, you could just buy one. whatever.

and i figured out how to get the header picture bigger! it involved much trolling of the icing archives, which i recommend to anyone trying to put something off. very handy. :)

finally, please note this is a timed post, right now i should be laying out on a beach somewhere reading magazines. hopefully. so i might not post till i get back on wednesday. ta ta for now!

i admit it: i am cheap. especially when it comes to makeup. the only time i have ever considered spending more than $10 on makeup was for the guerlain terracotta loose powder kohl liner. (and $33=waaay more than $10. so it just wasn't goin' to happen.)


so thank god for the knock off version, by l'oreal, hip kohl eyeliner. (it costs $13=only a little more than $10.) (also, the photo on the website totally lie. the brown is much closer to black, and the blues aren't nearly as bright.)

also, yay for the sale going on (went on?) at cvs: buy one l'oreal eyeshadow/liner, get another one free. as you could probably tell, i am now the proud owner of two little vials of colored kohl, in black and in teal. i think i also need it in burgandy... remember that post?

here is my review:
these kohls are really great, and highly pigmented. watch out, though, for all the fallout. i recommend tapping the wand on the edge of the tube before applying it and lots of q-tips. i wear contacts, but they didn't bother my eyes at all. :) they last a long time, but again, they can be kind of smudgy. the only other problem i had with them is that apperantly you can just apply it to your bottom waterline, blink, and transfer it to your top waterline. that doesn't work for me, so i have to apply it to my top waterline, too. one last thing: removing can be a real bitch. again, say it with me: q-tips!! ;) i would definetly recommend it, though, becuase you can either use a little in your lash line for a really clean look, or use more for a more party-ish look. it's amazing for tightlining.

btw, if you haven't heard of tightlining, here's what it pretty much is (and it totally changed how i apply eyeliner.) you color in the little space between your eyelashes, and it instantly makes them look tons thicker! if i don't feel like usuing eyeliner, sometimes i just smudge a tiny bit of mascara at the base of my lashes for the same effect.

p.s. i know this is a "fashion" blog, but i also think that hair/makeup make a huge difference in the way you look, so i include those types of posts, too.

the magic of makeup

paris vouge did a photoshoot a while ago where they used makeup, lighting, posing, and different hairstyles to make a 20-year-old model look 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60. the scary part is, it really seems to work!
i wonder what it would be like to see what you might look like in as a 60-year old... except in only a few hours instead of 40 years...

what a load of b.s.
i've been using it for a few weeks now (i admit it's just because i don't have a replacement yet), and wow, does it not live up to it's hype or what?! i'm not the only person to notice this, either. friends, other bloggers, even my own mother knew how crappy it is!!
it doesn't last, it's really clumpy, smeary, ect. grrr... especially with all the adds everywhere. you would think they might spend a little less on marketing and a little more on the formula itself.

i've been using blackest black (the washable kind) and it's highly pigmented, but that's really the only positive thing i can say about it.

so just take my advice: don't waste your money on this... this... pink and green monstrosity, ok?

i admit, i have trouble with commitment...

forget guys, i'm talking about nail polish!
i put a lot of thought into choosing what color to paint my nails because i'm o.c.d. like that. (as in, will this not clash with what i'm wearing tomorrow?? how easily does it chip? stuff like that.) so in the end, i usually end up not painting them at all. i also hate when the polish makes my skin look weird, like brownish/pinkish/yellowish, ect. but a lot of times, the stupid polish looks totally different in the bottle than it does on my nails!! grrr... but i've found a solution!! check this out!
you choose your skin color, then click on different colored polishes to see what different colors might look like on you. the only things i don't like about it is that i wish they had more skin tones (the closest to mine was the second lightest), and that the nails are so long, they almost look like talons. but for someone as obsessive as me, i could spend hours with this... have fun!!

a shoe-inspired manicure? what is the world coming to?...

i'm not huge into brands and designers and whatever, but even i recognize the famed red louboutin heels. (actually, they're one of the only brands of high-end shoes i recognize, but let's not get into that right now...) anyway, on all lacquered up, or another one of the many nail blogs i read, i discovered this:

yes folks, this is a shoe-inspired manicure. the top of the nail (where nail polish is traditionally put) is painted black, while the underside of the tip of the nail is bright red. i suppose this would only work with long nails, but how cool would it be to say, "like my louboutin manicure? i just got it last friday, dah-ling."
apparently london's charles worthington salon originally created it, but i've seen a lot of people try to recreate it. zoe pocock (the one who does the manicures) says that to do the red, she trimmed all but three bristles from the brush of her red nail polish. china glaze has also made a nail polish set specifically for this look, but with a shimmery, glittery red/black combo. i love china glaze, but how hard would it be to get glitter off the underside of your nails? answer:very hard, for those of you who have never tried to remove glitter nail polish.
i guess this is perfect for those of us who wish we could own a pair of heels with red soles, but wish the pricetag was a little lower. ;)
