i wore this to go out to lunch. we went to this chinese place we've been going to forever, it's sooo good. the lady who owns the place gave me some money in a little red envelope for luck, to say thanks for coming so much, ahaha. ;) (she also gave each of us a lollipop.) very sweet, no?

french-kissing 2010 hello

happy new year to all my lovely readers! i hope 2010 will be just as amazing as 2009... and i feel the need to mention i just watched yesman again (possibly one of my favorite movies of all time), which is now on my list of must-watch movies on new year's eve. :) i swear, allison is like my life-role-model.

also, happy blog-birthday to me! ;) it is officially musings of a born socialite's one-year anniversary, and i can't believe how far i've come... thank you all for supporting me! hugs and kisses all around. <3

wow... it's nearly the end of 2009, i can't believe how time's flown, but at the same time, how so much has happened. i started this blog, started attending a new school, and finally really started developing my style, along with so many other wonderful, amazing things that make me who i am now. :) when i look back on some of my resolutions for this year, i'm so happy and can go check-check-check on most of them. some others, well... 2010's a new start, isn't it? i love new years, and the whole feeling of starting fresh. and all the new possibilities of course. <3 here are some of my resolutions for this year:

~get a polariod camera. take pictures.

~take more pictures period. my goal is to try to take a few everyday. (i've been thinking about participating in the 365 challenge...)

~look more into vegetarianism--i've thought about it a lot recently, and i think i'm ready to take the plunge...

~keep a moleskin with me at all times--for when inspiration strikes. (and to keep more organized!)

~learn french.

~wear fabulous underwear-everyone knows how important a good foundation is. ;)

~make life an adventure. <3

hopefully i'll be able to make some plans for the 31st... and no matter what, i'll be wearing something crazy. (and preferably sequin-y!) sigh... sometime i'd really love to be in new york and be able to see the ball drop in person. and of course have someone next to me to kiss at midnight. ;)

 today, i saw a bit of a kids' christmas movie, all the characters were going, "oh no! christmas is ruined!" except for one. when the rest asked her why she wasn't freaking out, she said, "oh, i celebrate hanuka, so i already got all my presents. but yeah, oh no, poor santa." best. response. ever. :) and christmas is coming, so of course that means christmas wishlists! right now i have my eye on:

 ~urban decay eyeliner (i would never spend so much on eyeliner myself... but hey, it's the holidays! ;))

 ~plain moleskins-perfect for doodling!

 ~something sequined <3

 ~inspiration books, like one of tim walker's books

 ~a new camera to replace my super-out-of-date one. i love it, but sometimes it just frustrates me so much! i think this may be my x-mas gift to myself. does anyone have any suggestions for good cameras?

roaring 20's

happy halloween!! i know i'm way late, i've been a bit sick so no posting for me... :( i still dressed up anyway. priorities, you know! i was a flapper...

dress: h&m, pearls: dress-up box, shoes: thirfted, unfortunately, i seem to have lost my boa... :( 

oh. my. god. ok, so i finally get around to putting my costume back on, only to find i've lost my boa. and my camera. so my iphone pics aren't that great, and you can barely see my costume. bleh. i'm sorry, guys. once i find everything, i promise i'll take better pictures...

i never understood why people stopped dressing up after they stopped going trick-or-treating... i would never give up the excuse to dress up as someone else.

but since i was sick, i stayed on the couch watching scary movies and handing out candy to trick-or-treaters. i have come to the conclusion that i think the corpse bride is one of the most beautiful movies i've ever seen... tim burton is a genius.

i love emily... and her name is just fabulous. ;)

can you say disturbing? still, i rather like them... and i don't know which is scarier. i don't particularly like the scary, ugly side of halloween, complete with horror movies and gross decorations-- i much prefer the dressing up part... do you think maybe we could turn october 31st into a giant masquerade party and leave it at that? oh, with all ghosts welcome, of course. got to keep the spooky atmoshpere up somehow. ;)

i'm ba-ack!

ok, since i've been travelling non-stop the past few weeks, i decided to write a guide for packing for you all. then i realized i suck at packing and that you should just figure out what works for you. my personal strategy is squishing everything i might conceivably ever want to wear into a suitcase. then tossing in some undies and my toothbrush. whatever works, right? ;) anyway, my one piece of real advice is this:

avoid the dreaded tourist look at all costs. why do even the most stylish people sometimes start to totally abandon any pride/self-respect when travelling for the sake of "comfort" or "practicality"?? they might wear something they wouldn't be seen dead in at home. i say do the opposite: you might never see any of these people again, so make a good impression.

and as for suitcases: i say vintage all the way!!

anyway, i just figured out that i'll be away for the next two weeks too, so i apologize in advance for my extended hiatus. expect only (maybe?) sporadic posting.

and i also feel obligated to post about the uniform project, which, according to fashion bloggers everywhere, is the amazing-est thing since carl lagerfeld. now, i think it's great that she's doing it for charity and everything, but i'm not as impressed as everyone else seems to be... please don't call me a hater! :(

today i didn't do anything valentine's day related at all (except get a rose!! aww!!), but yesterday totally made up for it. ;) anyway, i had this really cool polyvore thingie, which for some reason no longer exists... strange...
anyway, i think the stylish wanderer had the best v-day outfit i've seen. ever.
so make sure to eat some chocolate, tell someone you love them, and do something crazy for me, k??

happy 2009, everyone!
mmm...ok, some facts about me:
i really like lists (as you'll probably be able to tell from my posts), photoshoots, getting dressed up, new zealand accents, cheesy pickup lines, new york city (my favorite place on earth...), the smell of rain, nutella... shall i continue? oh yeah, and i kind of start to blather on when there's no one around to shut me up. (like when i'm blogging. :) )

i guess i'll talk about trends, things i find fascinating in the world of fashion, my personal style discoveries, and maybe even a few "what i wore today" posts once i get my act together.

**by the way, i'm really sorry if my writing seems a little odd. i'm trying to find my writing "voice" right now. after a few posts, though, i'll probably be fine.

since it's the new year, here are some of my style resolutions for '09:
~i want to really work on developing my own style. i never understood how someone could say, "oh, i'm preppy," or "i'm bohemian." i don't think you can describe your style in one word without crippling all the available possibilities. what if one day you feel like hippie chic, but feel like an urban sophisticate the next? i want my wardrobe to reflect my changing personality, but at the same time, i want to consolidate the stuff i have so it doesn't look like my closet has a multiple personality disorder. i need a theme or something that ties everything together.
~i definitely need to start wearing spf more often. as in, every day.
~i'd like to start wearing more complete outfits, and not just throwing something together before i leave the house. i tend to do that, and it isn't nearly as much fun as stepping out in an outfit i love. as in, i'd like to be more chic on a day-to-day basis. this means flats instead of sneakers, sweaters and jackets instead of hoodies, and maybe throwing on a skirt or something instead of my usual jeans. it's all about branching out and taking risks!
~expanding my dress/skirt wardrobe is high on my priority list. i really do love them (and how they instantly give you an air of femininity!) but i just don't really wear them. it's time to change that. (ditto for expanding shoe wardrobe, accessory wardrobe, ect.)
~always always always washing my makeup off before going to sleep. i'm terrible about this, because i have really good skin, so there's no consequence since i don't break out if i don't wash. it's just those days when i'm almost too tired just to flop into bed...and travelling. isn't everyone a little lax with their skincare routine when they're traveling?? hmm... maybe something like facial wipes would help... have to look into that...
~i am trying to record every single outfit i wear, and how it turned out. was it a new favorite or a huge flop? and like i said before, if i deem any of them good enough, i might even post them here. ;)
