the higher they fly, the harder they fall

i know last post was all happy-happy-joy-joy, and i wish i could be like that all the time, but it's kind of a tradition with me that a really good day has to be followed by a crappy one. (i'll blame my bipolar gemini personality for this.)

so basically, i'm bored out of my freaking mind. i've been trapped inside for the past three days (thanks mother nature), and i can't take it anymore. there are things i should be doing, but can't bring myself to, and i can't seem to remember everything that seemed so important before... and sorry for the huge burst of negativity. i'm just going a little very stir-crazy here. trapped. in. my. house. ok, we need a topic change...

how about rainbow hair? sounds good to me.

dear tavi, you drive me craaazy sometimes. why? because of this. and arabelle. really, guys. teaming up on the rest of us like that? not fair. and then there was chanel, selina, olivia, and of course, gala, queen of unnaturally colored hair.
at first i thought pastel hair was cool, but, you know, not for me. then i started seeing rainbow hair everywhere. and i mean everywhere. (i think flickr is the guilty party here.) and then i started thinking... (of course, that's when all the trouble started. ;)) what about just a few strands? not the whole head, and therefore no roots to touch up, either. and easily hideable, in case the need arises... much more reasonable, no? soo... i think i'm ready to jump on this runaway train. ;) now i just have to determine exactly how dead i'd be if i actually dyed my hair blue...

ok. one decadent breakfast, 2 best friends (who are good at talking me off the edge), and a few hours of a little bit of flickr browsing later, i feel so much better. less like the world is trying to suffocate me. <3 i hope all of you who are wishing for snow right now know what you're getting into! haha.
xoxo

all fall down

i saw this at a store, and i just couldn't resist. i didn't expect much, considering it's... well... black lipstick, but i really love it. i think you just have to be careful not to wear too much black/leather/studs with it, and you'll be fine... by the way, this is wet n' wild. (as in, very cheap. good if  you just want to try it, without much investment.) i'm not sure if it'll ever make it outside my house (i'm not sure i'm quite ready for that), but i wanted to share with you guys. ;)
p.s. it's snowing!! yay, now it finally feels like december... <3

school, sports, homework, sleep, rinse and repeat...

i miss blogging so much... ugh, i hate being busy! school is seriously eating into my blogging time. :( my teachers are against students having social lives, i think... either that, or  i just suck at time management. (speaking of which, my dad sent me this youtube video on time management, and yesterday when he asked if i watched it yet i said no. when he asked why, i said because it's over an hour long! how ironic...)

here's what i wore today. yes, today. not yesterday. not last week.really, actually, today. i'm quite proud of myself. :)

i had the idea for this outfit in my head pretty much since i bought the sweater.

this picture shows the color of my sweater best. i used to avoid orange a lot because i thought it was super-unflattering, but now i think the burnt orange looks good with my hair color, if i do say so myself. ;)

sweater: marshalls, skirt: target, i think..., tights: ???, shoes: childhood closet (seriously. i've had these forever.)

also, i have the occasion to get more-than-usual dressed up for a thing in two weeks (ooh, suspense!), and i have my heart set on a one-shouldered dress. if anyone know where i can get a cute one for not-too-expensive (preferably under $100-$150), please let me know... i'd love you forever! ;)

taylor swift in her fabulous dress...

p.s. i updated my blogger account thingie, and everything works so much better now! i didn't know i could update, so if you haven't yet, be sure to do it. :) look! i can do strikeout! hee hee hee...

p.p.s. i just had an idea! i think i'll write posts on saturday/sunday (when i actually have the time) and schedule them to post during the week. so it's like i'm actually posting regularly again! genius, right?

p.p.p.s. (yes, i know this is getting kind of ridiculous.) can you guys see my sidebar? i've been messing around with the html and sometimes it just randomly goes away, even if i don't change it. verrrrry strange... and i'm updating my blogroll hopefully sometime this weekend! in case you were interersted...

space-alien legs!

don't you wish the whole lam-ay (no clue how to do the accent bit) leggings trend had caught on in colors other than boring old black??

this outfit has been in my "outfit inspiration" folder forever. from the fabulous dreamecho.

and how amazing is this picture?! i want to put it on my wall, but that might be kind of creepy... i mean, i want shiny blue tights!! :( (no idea as to where's the pictures from, sorry...)

old people in spandex.

very scary. not something you want to expose a young child to. unfortunately, my dad was a "serious" biker, and had all the gear, trained, and rode races and such...which exposed me to a lot of... ahem... older folk clad in helmets, biking jerseys, and spandex shorts. *shudder* but anyway, moving past my personal scarring, let me introduce trend #2...

bike shorts!

starting with the runway:

source (i think there's miu miu, alexander wang, and prada...)

then here we have dreamecho:

and flashes of style:

hmm... i think bike shorts are much better when they're made out of lace. or holograph fabric. take your pick. i think the way to pull these off is to either make them not look like athletic wear (like with glitter), or pair it with something girly like a dress or a pair of heels. i might not take part in this trend (a little too close to home...), but i would love to tell my dad, "look! i just bought these new lace bike shorts yesterday!" and watch his eyes pop out of his head. ;) plus, they seem like leggings (with the whole help-with-modesty thing), but shorter (i.e. cooler for summer).

p.s. you can buy some very brightly colored ones here, and holo ones here. (lace here and here, then just plain black.

p.p.s. happy mother's day to all the moms out there!! :)

sheer genius, i tell you...

now, as you could probably tell form the title of this post, the first trend (although the order is only based on which posts i wanted to do first, not importance, or anything) of spring 2009 is...

sheer-ousity!

that's a good word, isn't it? and don't tell me it's not a word. say it out loud and tell me it's not a real word. it reminds me of the disney version of alice in wonderland, where she's going down the rabbit hole as says, "now dinah, remember, curiosity often leads to trouble...ouble...ouble..." (as she falls down the rabbit hole.) sheer-ousity often leads to trouble too, unless also paired with something more opaque, if you know what i mean. ;)

but anyway, i think it's perfect for spring, it being all floaty and everything.

obligatory runway pics:

sea of shoes again, isn't her outfit just lovely?

image courtesy of already pretty... and this picture is a hint for another trend coming up... it's not thigh highs, can anyone guess what it is??...

(as for the bad pun of a title-i'm sorry, i just couldn't help myself. :))

coming soon to theaters near you...

firstly, i'd like to say thanks to everyone who leaves comments for me! i love reading all of them. :)

anyway, i know it's a little late, but i've decided to do a mini-series on spring trends and such. (not one big post because i'm lazy and that takes too long, plus i like the instant gratification of typing something then immediately hitting the "publish" button.) it'll probably span the next few days/week.

just to clarify, to me, there are two types of trends. there are trends that are flaunted as the "hot new thing" of the season in all the magazines, which are usually toned-down versions of what we see on the runway. most people don't know that, or even know which designers/collections the original idea came from. the other type, what i think of as "fashion blogger" trends (as i see very few people in real life wearing these), which are exactly what was on the runway, but in a do-it-yourself type way. an example would be this lego hair pin thing...

a la marc jacobs spring runway show circa 2008...

a la fashion blogger is mental:

if you want to know how to make one yourself (and don't trust yourself to be able to do it on your own-but seriously, how hard could it be?) (those are famous last words, i tell you...) she has instructions here. hmmmm.... can you guess what i'll be up to this weekend? i give you 3 guesses...

it's like a secret message to other people who follow fashion closely- strike that, almost obsessively- saying something like "hey! i'm not a sheep either!" of course, it might get you a few stares from the mere mortals who aren't in the know, but isn't it cool knowing you're almost part of a secret society? ish...

anyway, check back soon for more! ;)

return of the "cage skirt"

btw, this is basically the first ten results google comes up with when you google "cage skirt." availible for sale here.

i first i was like, that seems kind of weird. what good is a skirt you have to wear another skirt under? but then i kept seeing them in the most amazing outfits...

then i saw this.

holy shit. how amazing-ly awesome/gasp worthy is this?! a cage skirt that's actually a bird cage.
i mean, isn't this what fashion is supposed to be?? "wearable art" and all that? plus, you can make one yourself in only 25 easy steps!

we've all seen the classic black smokey eye before.

we've seen it in "trendy" blue and green shades.
every season. mmhmmm, very trendy.

i think it's time for a change. ;\

maybe something softer, what about brown? eh, it's been done. maybe something a little spicier... what about red? oh yeah, wait a second, who actually wears red eyeshadow?

ok, let's compromise... what about burgundy?

i just saw it in a magazine, and i think i'm in love.

i mean, look at it!

(from the modcloth homepage.)

isn't it divine?? (btw, don't you love that word? it just seems so greek-goddess-y!)

i usually don't wear colors on my eyes, but this seems sooo fun!

sorry for the lack of photos, it's harder to find proper pictures of burgundy eyeshadow than i thought. i'll try to scan in some of the pictures from the magazine, if i can find it.

so go out and get some to try it for yourself!

the universally unflattering pants: the drop-crotch... or so i thought

i know "harem" (or "hammer" or "drop-crotch" or whatever else you call them) pants have been popular for a while now.

by "popular" (lots of quotes, no?), i mean fashion bloggers raving over them and everyone else complaining about how terrible they are.

at first i was part of the latter group
. how could pants that don't even look good on a model look good on a mere mortal? then i heard someone (i forget exactly who) mention cropped harem pants. "hmmm," i thought. "that actually might look ok!!"
so i googled it, and...

not so bad, right? i would wear those...
so, to recap, what have we learned? normal harem pants=not so good, but cropped harem pants = yes!
although these metallic gold ones are pretty awesome too!

i hereby dare you to try on a pair. go on. you know you want to...
