i'm so insanely happy right now, part 1 of my math midterms are over. which were not as bad as i thought they'd be. *insert crazy grinning that stretches my face so much it hurts* also, i've been very inspired lately, so expect loads of photoshoots and such. (i'm thinking about making a zine... with all my copious spare time, of course. :p any thoughts on this?)

also, i'd just like to say i'm totally envious of all the bloggers out there who "partner-blog," as in there are two people posting to the same blog. (i.e. if the sok fitz, pigtails and blushing cheeks, the wearing times, ect.) it'd be nice to have someone who'd pick up the slack when i can't post and help take outfit shots, plus being able to share the whole love of fashion bit. (none of my friends are into fashion the way i am, i don't even think any of them know who alexander mcqueen is. i love them anyway, though. <3) then again, i'm kinda o.c.d. about my blog layout--i want it to be exactly how i imagine it, no compromises. ;)

do any of you partner-blog? what's it like? and those of you who blog alone (yeah singles!), did you ever wish there was someone you shared it with?

happy new year to all my lovely readers! i hope 2010 will be just as amazing as 2009... and i feel the need to mention i just watched yesman again (possibly one of my favorite movies of all time), which is now on my list of must-watch movies on new year's eve. :) i swear, allison is like my life-role-model.

also, happy blog-birthday to me! ;) it is officially musings of a born socialite's one-year anniversary, and i can't believe how far i've come... thank you all for supporting me! hugs and kisses all around. <3

i'm so depressed about what's happening to luella. :/ i love miss bartley, i can't believe her backers are pulling... and this is going to make me seem very uninformed, but can anyone explain to me if they're closing forever or just this ss '09 season?? i've heard rumors she's getting new backers soon... either way, i wish it wasn't happening.

on a lighter note, i finally installed something that counts the number of visitors to my blog, and i have about an average of 30 readers a day. i think that's crazy. (i know 30 won't seem like a lot to some bloggers, but when i think of 30 people reading this, it scares me a little bit...) so if i have any lurkers shy readers that look but don't comment, feel free to write away! i don't bite, promise. <3

i miss blogging so much... ugh, i hate being busy! school is seriously eating into my blogging time. :( my teachers are against students having social lives, i think... either that, or  i just suck at time management. (speaking of which, my dad sent me this youtube video on time management, and yesterday when he asked if i watched it yet i said no. when he asked why, i said because it's over an hour long! how ironic...)

here's what i wore today. yes, today. not yesterday. not last week.really, actually, today. i'm quite proud of myself. :)

 

i had the idea for this outfit in my head pretty much since i bought the sweater.

this picture shows the color of my sweater best. i used to avoid orange a lot because i thought it was super-unflattering, but now i think the burnt orange looks good with my hair color, if i do say so myself. ;)

sweater: marshalls, skirt: target, i think..., tights: ???, shoes: childhood closet (seriously. i've had these forever.)

also, i have the occasion to get more-than-usual dressed up for a thing in two weeks (ooh, suspense!), and i have my heart set on a one-shouldered dress. if anyone know where i can get a cute one for not-too-expensive (preferably under $100-$150), please let me know... i'd love you forever! ;)

1. i'm a leftie. i guess that doesn't matter much on the internet, most people are surprised when they figure it out. i have no idea why.
2. i can fly in all my dreams. my "superpower" would be flying, no matter how cliche it is! :)
3. if i can help it, i only write/type in lowercase. (i.e., on this blog, not on school papers, ect.)
4. when i was three i decided i was going to be the tooth fairy when i grew up. please note my mother did nothing to dissuade me at all from this plan.
5. i am not a morning person. at all. my family has learned this the hard way. ;)
6. i still don't know how to ride a bike. :( i feel that this is like some type of important skill i'll need later in life, but it's so hard! esp. since i never learned to when i was little.
7. i think i'd like a tattoo on the inside of my wrist/lower arm, but i'm not sure exactly what it would be. i'm not good at making decisions that i'll live to live with for a long time... literally.
8. i used to be so fluent in spanish i would dream in it. hee hee, not anymore, though...
9. i love reading books (and blogs!) written by people from the u.k. since i love the way they say "loads" instead of "lots," and "crisps" instead of "chips" and things like that.
10. i have 3 sets of double letters in my name (middle and last), which i think is pretty cool. (if this doesn't make any sense at all, i mean double letters like the two o's in "book." yeah. three of those.)

my life as of 11:19 today

<3 i got back from my vacation last week, and am still trying to get through all the posts on my bloglovin' account. so i'm sorry if it takes me a while a comment on all your wonderful blogs. :( <3 yesterday the weather (finally!) got cooler, it feels like fall is actually here now! which makes me sad as i don't want summer to be over yet, but at the same time i want to wear tights and jackets and cardis and such that can only be worn when it's cool out. <3 this outfit is from before the weather decided it was time for fall:

i felt very preppy all day, with my stripe-y dress and charm bracelet. :) (and i tried to get a good close-up of the charm bracelet, but my crappy camera just made it all blurry...) i just got this t-shirt a few days ago when i stopped by my neighborhood thrift store. let me just say, i never knew houndstooth suits were so popular.... *happy sighhhh......* thrifting = <3

also, i'd just like to say thank you to everyone who commented on my last post, your comments are very appreciated. :) blog "renovations" have started, beginning with this outfit post! (and you'll probably see more when the weather cools down, during the summer i just usually wear as little clothing as possible.)

deeeeeep thoughts

soooo... i've been thinking a lot about this blog, mostly ways in which i'd like to change it. i want to make it more personal, y'know? i try to make it interesting, but sometimes i feel like i'm just re-hashing what everyone else says. at first i considered just completely starting over. a new blog, where i actually knew what i was doing... i was never really too fond of the name of my blog, either, i just needed something so i could start blogging. plus, musings of a born socialite is kind of a mouthful...

but then i started re-reading some of my old posts, and decided no, not a new blog, but a blog makeover instead? new name, header, ect. a fresh start.

what do you guys think?

(here's a pretty picture to look at while you think, but it's mainly here because picture-less posts are so boring... i believe it's from some online magazine called betty? also, i'm in love with her jeans. the flowers are pretty cool too.)

ahh, there's nothing like coming home after a week at the beach only to log into bloglovin' and find you have 150 new posts...

anyway, i just figured out that i'll be away for the next two weeks too, so i apologize in advance for my extended hiatus. expect only (maybe?) sporadic posting.

anyway, to try to make up for it, i will leave you this link to an amazing jewelry website, marquis and camus. i esp. like their "victorian romance" collection. for some reason, the whole getting pics from the website/putting them here seems to be not working, but trust me, go check it out! there's some crazy-good eye candy. too bad it's so far out of my price range....

and i also feel obligated to post about the uniform project, which, according to fashion bloggers everywhere, is the amazing-est thing since carl lagerfeld. now, i think it's great that she's doing it for charity and everything, but i'm not as impressed as everyone else seems to be... please don't call me a hater! :(

a vintage summer

i saw these high-waisted shorts on the forever 21 website, and immediately starting thinking of ways to wear them. (i have no idea why polyvore would only clip the image of the back of the shorts...) this is what i came up with. not too shabby for my first polyvore, right?

it's been all rainy and miserable for the past couple days, but today was nice and warm and sunny, just like spring should be. i can't wait for classes to be over...

firstly, i'd like to say thanks to everyone who leaves comments for me! i love reading all of them. :)

anyway, i know it's a little late, but i've decided to do a mini-series on spring trends and such. (not one big post because i'm lazy and that takes too long, plus i like the instant gratification of typing something then immediately hitting the "publish" button.) it'll probably span the next few days/week.

just to clarify, to me, there are two types of trends. there are trends that are flaunted as the "hot new thing" of the season in all the magazines, which are usually toned-down versions of what we see on the runway. most people don't know that, or even know which designers/collections the original idea came from. the other type, what i think of as "fashion blogger" trends (as i see very few people in real life wearing these), which are exactly what was on the runway, but in a do-it-yourself type way. an example would be this lego hair pin thing...

it's like a secret message to other people who follow fashion closely- strike that, almost obsessively- saying something like "hey! i'm not a sheep either!" of course, it might get you a few stares from the mere mortals who aren't in the know, but isn't it cool knowing you're almost part of a secret society? ish...

how true, how true.

anyway, you know how i said i would try to make a shirt skirt last friday? well, i actually did!! and took pictures, too! just having problems with the blurry-ness, which i've been trying to fix, plus i've been busy, blah blah blah, you get the idea. so, hopefully they'll be up this weekend.

this week, you can also expect a couple of beauty product reviews, some stuff i got thrifting (yay!), and a couple other random other things that have been inspiring me lately...

makeover!!

yes, there is something different around here, thanks for noticing. (isn't it awkward when you see someone everyday, but only notice they got as haircut 2 weeks after the fact? heh heh heh...)

much less generic now, i think. :) like my header? in my opinion, it matches the name of my blog perfectly. (the pic is from either ellegirl korea or teen vouge korea...) the only not-so-great thing is that everything is now all uppercase. :( oh well. can't have everything, i suppose...

stupid me, i just figured out how to change the header. (don't laugh.) that's why it was the other pink background until now.

any thoughts/comments on the new layout?

reasons i *love* bloglovin':

1.) it's so much easier to follow all the blogs you read regularly...
2.) ...instead of checking each individual blog (*ahem*multiple) times a day to check for new posts, because all bloggers' who have blogs that i read sole purpose in life is too write entertaining posts for me alone. ;)
3.) you can register your own blog and see many people follow it. (you can also follow other people's blogs even if they haven't registered them.
4.) plus, it let's you save posts you really like, instead of bookmarking all of them.

bloglovin' really is my new favorite thing. every time i open it, it says, "oh, you have 9 new posts from all your favorite blogs!" i'm not kidding, it's like getting a special little present or something!and i know that other people have been doing this forever, but i just started using it, and can't believe i can't believe i didn't start using it earlier...

now you can follow musings of a born socialite, too!! i have 1 follower, which i'm very proud of, considering i don't think anyone actually reads this.

happy 2009, everyone!
mmm...ok, some facts about me:
i really like lists (as you'll probably be able to tell from my posts), photoshoots, getting dressed up, new zealand accents, cheesy pickup lines, new york city (my favorite place on earth...), the smell of rain, nutella... shall i continue? oh yeah, and i kind of start to blather on when there's no one around to shut me up. (like when i'm blogging. :) )

i guess i'll talk about trends, things i find fascinating in the world of fashion, my personal style discoveries, and maybe even a few "what i wore today" posts once i get my act together.

**by the way, i'm really sorry if my writing seems a little odd. i'm trying to find my writing "voice" right now. after a few posts, though, i'll probably be fine.

since it's the new year, here are some of my style resolutions for '09:
~i want to really work on developing my own style. i never understood how someone could say, "oh, i'm preppy," or "i'm bohemian." i don't think you can describe your style in one word without crippling all the available possibilities. what if one day you feel like hippie chic, but feel like an urban sophisticate the next? i want my wardrobe to reflect my changing personality, but at the same time, i want to consolidate the stuff i have so it doesn't look like my closet has a multiple personality disorder. i need a theme or something that ties everything together.
~i definitely need to start wearing spf more often. as in, every day.
~i'd like to start wearing more complete outfits, and not just throwing something together before i leave the house. i tend to do that, and it isn't nearly as much fun as stepping out in an outfit i love. as in, i'd like to be more chic on a day-to-day basis. this means flats instead of sneakers, sweaters and jackets instead of hoodies, and maybe throwing on a skirt or something instead of my usual jeans. it's all about branching out and taking risks!
~expanding my dress/skirt wardrobe is high on my priority list. i really do love them (and how they instantly give you an air of femininity!) but i just don't really wear them. it's time to change that. (ditto for expanding shoe wardrobe, accessory wardrobe, ect.)
~always always always washing my makeup off before going to sleep. i'm terrible about this, because i have really good skin, so there's no consequence since i don't break out if i don't wash. it's just those days when i'm almost too tired just to flop into bed...and travelling. isn't everyone a little lax with their skincare routine when they're traveling?? hmm... maybe something like facial wipes would help... have to look into that...
~i am trying to record every single outfit i wear, and how it turned out. was it a new favorite or a huge flop? and like i said before, if i deem any of them good enough, i might even post them here. ;)
