just a quick update

i haven't really felt like blogging much lately... and i've been really bad about returning comments. sorry, guys. :( but i have a million ideas for photoshoots bouncing around in my head and i'm getting my new dslr this weekend, so you'll probably see some of those soon.

okay, now onto my promised review of aussie 3-minute miracle deep conditioner. it really did make my hair super-soft, the only not-so-great thing was it sort of killed my waves. oh well. it smells really fresh, and when you first put it on it has an almost-overpowering grape smell, but that mostly goes away when you wash it out. it also comes in this nifty little squeeze bottle that doesn't even need a lid, which is pretty handy. so i would recommend it. (haha, pretty comprehensive review, right?) (that was sarcasm, by the way.)

and i know this is a crap post, but i can't come up with anything better. so, to sum it up, probably a slow-down on posting (but no blog-quitting or anything, don't worry!) but i'll try to keep up with all your blogs. deal?

*the photo up there was from my latest batch, but i used my point and shoot (which is literally dying), so a lot of them had random purple/green/orange pixels in them? if you want, the rest are here.

they don't love you like i love you

no classes today, as we got hit with mounds of snow. :) a very productive day off, if i do say so myself. (after getting an extra 3 hours of sleep and eating pancakes. cos what are snow days for, anyway?)
just threw this on, because it makes me feel (slightly) more presentable than pyjamas.
jacket, old navy; top and "jeggings," target; boots, totes.
also, i got the teen vogue handbook the other week, and have finally gotten to paging through it properly. i would definitely recommend it as a must-read to anyone interested in a career in fashion. (i pretty much bought it for the photography section.) i felt like the big, overwhelming lesson was that you don't need to go to a design/art/fashion school, but the willingness to be an assistant/intern really helps. however, there is a handy little section in the back with a mini-overview of a lot of the aforementioned not-totally-necesary design/art/fashion schools, which i thought was very nice of them.
and finally, i had some fun with some lipstick i got from ulta. ;) (i think i made the bottom lip too wide, though. sadface.) and if you've never smeared your lips with concealer, it's a very creepy experience, to say the least. psst. it makes you look like a zombie.
hahaha! hope you all had as much fun as i did today...
xoxo

the closet is not a fun place to be

still no camera, but today was the release of......... rodarte for target! of course, i went directly to the site, and found a few amazing pieces... like this nude lace cardigan, (p.s. it also comes in black), which would be perfect for spring. :)

i am also pretty fond of this skirt, which i've already seen on a few fashion bloggers... ahem tavi and kori.

finally, i really like this mesh-y top, i think it'd look great under a dress or something for that fake-lace-collar look.

on the other hand, they also had some really generic stuff, like a plain grey t-shirt (whaat?) and all these bikinis. sorry, target, but it's december, and and have absolutely no inclination whatsoever to buy swimwear. well, that's my mini-review. so, what did you think of the collection? will you be buying anything from it as an early christmas present to yourself? ;)

happy 4th!

ahh, there's nothing like coming home after a week at the beach only to log into bloglovin' and find you have 150 new posts...

anyway, i just figured out that i'll be away for the next two weeks too, so i apologize in advance for my extended hiatus. expect only (maybe?) sporadic posting.

anyway, to try to make up for it, i will leave you this link to an amazing jewelry website, marquis and camus. i esp. like their "victorian romance" collection. for some reason, the whole getting pics from the website/putting them here seems to be not working, but trust me, go check it out! there's some crazy-good eye candy. too bad it's so far out of my price range....

and i also feel obligated to post about the uniform project, which, according to fashion bloggers everywhere, is the amazing-est thing since carl lagerfeld. now, i think it's great that she's doing it for charity and everything, but i'm not as impressed as everyone else seems to be... please don't call me a hater! :(

well, that wraps up the randomness for today. as always, hope you guys are having awesome summers so far!

walk like an egyptian...

i admit it: i am cheap. especially when it comes to makeup. the only time i have ever considered spending more than $10 on makeup was for the guerlain terracotta loose powder kohl liner. (and $33=waaay more than $10. so it just wasn't goin' to happen.)

so thank god for the knock off version, by l'oreal, hip kohl eyeliner. (it costs $13=only a little more than $10.) (also, the photo on the website totally lie. the brown is much closer to black, and the blues aren't nearly as bright.)

also, yay for the sale going on (went on?) at cvs: buy one l'oreal eyeshadow/liner, get another one free. as you could probably tell, i am now the proud owner of two little vials of colored kohl, in black and in teal. i think i also need it in burgandy... remember that post?

go to apocalypstick to learn more about them, how to apply them, ect.

here is my review:
these kohls are really great, and highly pigmented. watch out, though, for all the fallout. i recommend tapping the wand on the edge of the tube before applying it and lots of q-tips. i wear contacts, but they didn't bother my eyes at all. :) they last a long time, but again, they can be kind of smudgy. the only other problem i had with them is that apperantly you can just apply it to your bottom waterline, blink, and transfer it to your top waterline. that doesn't work for me, so i have to apply it to my top waterline, too. one last thing: removing can be a real bitch. again, say it with me: q-tips!! ;) i would definetly recommend it, though, becuase you can either use a little in your lash line for a really clean look, or use more for a more party-ish look. it's amazing for tightlining.

btw, if you haven't heard of tightlining, here's what it pretty much is (and it totally changed how i apply eyeliner.) you color in the little space between your eyelashes, and it instantly makes them look tons thicker! if i don't feel like usuing eyeliner, sometimes i just smudge a tiny bit of mascara at the base of my lashes for the same effect.

p.s. i know this is a "fashion" blog, but i also think that hair/makeup make a huge difference in the way you look, so i include those types of posts, too.

why you *really* should watch yesman

zooey deschanel. oh, and the costumes. and the insane laughter that's bound to happen during the first 5 minutes of the movie.

yesterday, i watched yesman for the first time, and i have to say that i loved it. it's a totally hilarious movie (jim carrey is great), but my favorite character by far was allison, played by zooey deschanel. and then there were the costumes. *sigh......*

warning:
do not read ahead if you want to see the movie and haven't yet, as there are some minor plot spoilers.

so, the first time we see zooey, she's on her scooter, being very safe and all with her helmet and her helmet is just so... so... like something a five-year-old would wear, except she can totally pull it off.

this was the only picture i could find of the first jogging scene, but as i was watching, this was exactly what i was thinking:
hmmm... very touching scene, blah blah blah. maybe i should get some ice cream... wait!! omigod, look at her outfit!! it's absolutely perfect. why can't i look like that when i run?!...

but seriously. i would love that outfit.

allison is also in a band, and comes out on stage in ensembles that could only be described as... interesting. still, of course, very cute.

and then, when allison and carl get on a plane to nebraska (or something like that), zooey wears this amazing navy coat with red piping that seems so prim and proper to me, but fun/playful at the same time.

so, overall impression of the movie? funny, good moral, ect. but the costumes were to die for. i would recommend it. :)

yes, the one the only... (ok, maybe not really) shirt skirt!!! :)

ahh, there is nothing better than blogging while eating a frozen milkshake with a spoon. *sigh...* :) anyway, i know it's tuesday, which is not usually considered part of the weekend, but that's life. so, may i now present the long-anticipated (kind of) shirt skirt!!

ok, i understand. bad, blurry pictures. well, at least i warned you...

here are two slightly better pictures, and if you're wondering why i'm wearing jeans in the first picture, well, i just didn't really take off what i was wearing before before i started experimenting. i probably wouldn't have paired it with a black tank top, either. (oh, and in real life, my legs are all one color and actually match my arms. stupid camera.)

'

detail shot. i basically just tied the cardi around my waist, like how you tie a sweatshirt around your waist with the arms when you don't feel like carrying it? yeah, just like that, except backwards.

here i tied it in the back, in a cute lil' bow. ;) i probably wouldn't wear this in public, unless a.) i could figure out how to make the back even/stay shut (safety pins, anyone?) and b.) wear tights under it, cause wow, this "sweater" is pretty damn thin. here's a picture of it, so you get a better idea of the color:

it's from american eagle, but i got it thrifting for like $2. it was brand-new, though, with the tags on and everything!

oh, and sorry if these pictures are kind of anticlimactic... :/

i did try a (button-down) shirt skirt, but it didn't turn out too well. too big, and i couldn't figure out how to tie it properly, either. whoops.

oh, and if you check out the comments from the last last post, dirty laundry left a link to a post she did on men's shirts, which is way better than anything i ever did. so go check it out!

you must live under a rock...

if you haven't seen the ads for maybelline greatlash mascara:
the pink and green phenomenon sweeping the nation.

what a load of b.s.
i've been using it for a few weeks now (i admit it's just because i don't have a replacement yet), and wow, does it not live up to it's hype or what?! i'm not the only person to notice this, either. friends, other bloggers, even my own mother knew how crappy it is!!
it doesn't last, it's really clumpy, smeary, ect. grrr... especially with all the adds everywhere. you would think they might spend a little less on marketing and a little more on the formula itself.

i've been using blackest black (the washable kind) and it's highly pigmented, but that's really the only positive thing i can say about it.

so just take my advice: don't waste your money on this... this... pink and green monstrosity, ok?

...no matter how pretty the packaging the packaging is.
